Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.

Jersey .com) - Andrew Luck threw for 370 yards with
five touchdowns, leading the Indianapolis Colts to a 49-
27 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday at
Lucas Oil Stadium. It was supposed to be a matchup of the
top two picks in the 2012 NFL Draft, but only Luck, the
No. 1 selection, played. And he played very well. Luck
completed 19-of-27 throws, two of which went for scores
of more than 70 yards. Coby Fleener hauled in TD passes
of 30 and 73 yards, while Donte Moncrief had scoring
receptions of 48 and 79 yards. Robert Griffin III, the
second overall choice in 2012, was benched earlier this
week by Redskins coach Jay Gruden after three straight
losing efforts. Colt McCoy, the winning quarterback in
Washingtons last two victories, threw for 392 yards with
three touchdowns, but the Redskins defense could not stop
Luck. The Colts (8-4) racked up 487 yards on just 49
plays, an average of 9.9 yards per play. Dan Herron added
to the outburst with 88 yards on just eight carries,
including a 49-yard touchdown run, as Indianapolis
notched its second straight win. Washington (3-9) has
lost four in a row since McCoy guided the team to an
overtime win at Dallas on Oct. 27. The Redskins were
productive with 425 yards of offense after mustering just
213 last week in a loss to San Francisco. The Colts
turned the ball over on each of their first two
possessions, but Washington managed to convert only one
mistake into points. Luck fumbled on the first play from
scrimmage to give Washington possession at the
Indianapolis 15, but it led only to a 25-yard Kai Forbath
field goal. Luck then had a pass deflected four plays
into the ensuing series and Ryan Clark came down with the
interception near midfield, but again the Redskins failed
to move and were forced to punt. There were no mistakes
on Indys third series. Luck connected on each of his four
passes, including a 30-yard scoring strike to a wide open
Fleener along the left sideline. The Colts extended their
lead to 21-3 on consecutive possessions in second
quarter, as Herron broke free for a 49-yard touchdown run
and Luck found T.Y. Hilton with a 3-yard TD pass.
Washington then finally put together a solid offensive
series, marching 84 yards on nine plays for a score.
McCoy capped it with a 21-yard TD pass to Roy Helu Jr.
The Redskins got one more chance after Herron fumbled
near midfield on the next series, but an incomplete pass
and a sack eventually forced a punt in the final minute
of the half. McCoy pulled Washington within 21-17 on the
first series of the second half, throwing a 16-yard
touchdown pass to Logan Paulsen, but the Colts answered
just three plays after the kickoff when Luck hit Moncrief
with a 48-yard scoring pass. The Redskins were moving
again with their next possession, but McCoy was sacked
again and lost the ball. DQwell Jackson recovered and
raced 35 yards for a touchdown to give the Colts a 35-17
advantage. McCoy and Luck then traded long scoring
passes. McCoy hit DeSean Jackson with a 42-yard touchdown
and Luck answered just 27 seconds later with a 73-yarder
to Fleener. Forbath kicked a 29-yard field goal three
minutes into the fourth quarter to get Washington within
two scores, but once again Luck had a quick response with
a 79-yard TD pass to Moncrief just three plays later and
Washington had no answer. Game Notes The Colts scored a
touchdown in the first quarter for the first time since
Week 6 against Houston ... Luck set a franchise record
with his 10th 300-yard passing game of the season,
eclipsing Peyton Mannings mark of nine set in 2009 ...
Fleener had four catches for 127 yards, while Moncrief
amassed 134 yards on just three receptions ... Jackson
caught five passes for 84 yards in defeat, while tight
end Jordan Reed hauled in nine balls for 123 yards ...
The Colts will visit Cleveland next Sunday, while the
Redskins will host St. Louis.

thats a concern for everyone.LAS VEGAS -- Canelo Alvarez
chased Erislandy Lara far too long Saturday night to pay
much attention afterward to Laras complaint that he won
their fight. "You dont win by running, you win by
hitting," Alvarez said. "You dont win a fight like that."
Lara thought he had done just that, but when the decision
came down it was Alvarez whose hand was held aloft. He
escaped with a split decision win for his second straight
victory since losing last year to Floyd Mayweather Jr. It
was a frustrating night for Alvarez, and a tense one for
his fans, who filled the MGM Grand arena to watch as
Alvarez chased after Lara for 12 rounds before winning
the decision. "I wanted to leave a good taste in the
mouth of my fans. I came to fight," Alvarez said. "He
came to run." Alvarez had all he could handle against
Lara, whose constant movement frustrated the Mexican
fighter and often caused him to miss wildly with right
hands. In the end, Alvarez won on two scorecards, 115-113
and 117-111, to pull out a narrow decision. The third
judge had Lara ahead 115-113, while The Associated Press
scored the fight 114-114. "Everyone knows i won the
fight, no matter what they say," Lara said. "I didnt
respect him before the fight and that hasnt changed. I
dont respect him now." Alvarez was favoured against Lara,
who left his native Cuba to come to the U.S. and fight as
a pro. But Lara provided a stiff test in a fight that was
up for grabs in the late rounds. Lara raised his hands in
victory as the final bell sounded, certain he had done
enough to win. A few minutes later, he leaned on the
ropes, staring out in disbelief as the decision was
announced. Punch stats reflected how close the fight was,
and how few punches were actually landed. Alvarez was
credited with landing 97 of 415 punches, while Lara
landed 107 of 386. "It was a difficult, tough fight, the
way everybody expected it to be," said Oscar De La Hoya,
who promotes Alvarez. "Youre always worried about a boxer
who was literally running, literally runningg.
Fitzpatrick-Dolphins-Jersey.html?cat=939">Minkah
Fitzpatrick Jersey. " Alvarez acknowledged before
the bout that fighting someone with a style like Laras
was risky. Alvarez could not find Mayweather when he
moved in their fight last year, and he had almost as much
trouble cornering Lara in a fight where no title was at
stake but one that was dangerous for both competitors.
Lara was a moving target from the opening bell, going
sideways and backward, content to let Alvarez chase him.
The strategy worked early on as Alvarez had trouble
cutting off the ring and often threw wild right hands
that caught nothing but air. By the fourth round, Alvarez
(44-1-1) began to have more success finding his elusive
opponent. He was relentless in pressuring Lara, who was
content to move about the ring, stopping occasionally to
throw a right hand followed by a left. The heavily pro-
Alvarez crowd of 14,239 at the MGM Grand began growing
frustrated with the action midway through the fight,
booing Lara for refusing to stand and trade punches with
the Mexican favourite. Lara was cut on the right eye in
the seventh round by a left uppercut, and spent much of
the later rounds wiping blood from his eye. He kept
moving, though, and Alvarez kept chasing him, drawing
huge roars from the crowd on the few occasions he managed
to trap him on the ropes. Lara (19-2-2) kept frustrating
Alvarez through the end of the fight, winning some late
rounds as he landed counter left hands after first making
Alvarez miss with his right. Lara, who fled Cuba to begin
a pro career, came into the fight with only one loss --
and it was a disputed one. Most in boxing considered him
the equal of Alvarez, though he is relatively unknown
compared to the Mexican star who fought Mayweather last
year in boxings richest fight ever. Lara got the fight
after calling Alvarez out, despite worries by promoter
Oscar De La Hoya that the Cubans southpaw style would be
difficult for Alvarez, who struggled against Mayweather
in his only loss. Lara holds a piece of the 154-pound
title, though it was not at stake in the fight, which was
fought at 155 pounds.
