Da¡¯Ron Payne Jersey , 2019I read this in the comments yesterday, and I¡¯m guessing that it represents more than just one man¡¯s opinion:I, for..."Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesIcon Sportswire via Getty ImagesI think we can see the budding relationship between the team¡¯s head coach and his exciting young prot¨¦g¨¦. APIs it possible that Gruden is now being forced to put a brave face on an unwanted quarterback situation?Could it be that we fans are more excited about Haskins than his own coach is?What if Haskins just can¡¯t do it?History seems to be against Haskins. The bottom half of the first round doesn¡¯t appear to be the ¡®sweet spot¡¯ for drafting a franchise quarterback.Sure, Flacco is the poster boy for those QBs in the past dozen years, and we¡¯ve seen Aaron Rodgers, Jason Campbell, and Drew Brees drafted in that space. Before that, you probably jump back to 1983 before you find a QB who built a strong NFL career after being drafted between 15th and 32nd overall. Some of Jay Gruden¡¯s comments can be construed as less than a complete endorsement of Haskins as the Redskins draft pick.At the very least, before the draft, when Jay didn¡¯t know who his rookie QB would be, he threw serious cold water on the former Buckeye¡¯s readiness to start in the NFL Week One.Further, his comments about Dwayne¡¯s limited experience ¡ª that he¡¯s currently learning about calling plays and breaking the huddle ¡ª don¡¯t seem to inspire confidence that 6 weeks of training camp will be sufficient to get the rookie ready to face NFL defenses in 2019.So
Derrius Guice Jersey , what¡¯s the big deal if Case Keenum has to play at the start of 2019?Isn¡¯t that why he¡¯s here?I actually like that Keenum is here.I hope it relieves some of the pressure that may be felt to start Haskins before he¡¯s ready.Facing the Eagles¡¯ pass rush on opening day in Philly is not the way I¡¯d like to see Haskins begin his NFL career. But, my question in this article goes beyond 2019.What I¡¯m asking is this - what if Haskins is what most quarterbacks are who are drafted in the back half of the first round? What if he¡¯s really a career backup? The Redskins had the bad fortune to be in need of a quarterback in a year when there didn¡¯t appear to be a lot of high-quality future NFL signal callers available.Add to that the fact that the Redkskins were picking at 15th overall, combined with the scars remaining from the trade up for RG3, and you have a situation where the Redskins pretty much had to avoid trading up for a quarterback, may not have had the opportunity to draft a franchise-quality QB in 2019 in any event, and then had to draft Haskins when his name was still on the board at 15.Now we¡¯re all faced with the task of making the best of it.So, we do what we can.We compare Haskins to the other quarterbacks available this year ¡ª grading on a curve.¡°He was better than the alternatives,¡± we say.But being the best option at the time doesn¡¯t make Haskins the best option.Assuming that Colt McCoyand Case Keenum move onto greener pastures in 2020 and that Alex Smith is still rehabbing his leg, the team could be faced with a situation where they really only have one quarterback ¡ª Dwayne Haskins ¡ª under contract and healthy in 2020.What if he either doesn¡¯t get on the field at all in 2019, or he starts some games but plays badly? What would it mean for the franchise if we¡¯re all fooling ourselves into thinking this guy can do it?Other fan bases have gotten excited about similarly drafted quarterbacks in the past only to suffer disappointment:Paxton LynchJohnny ManzielGeno SmithBrock OsweilerJake Locker Christian PonderJosh FreemanAs Redskins fans, we know the feeling of promise, followed by hope
Geron Christian Jersey , followed by disappointment connected to players like Heath Schuler, Jason Campbell, and Robert Griffin. What happens if Dwayne Haskins is just another name on that list? Germaine Pratt, LBSchool: NC State | Conference: ACCCollege Experience: RS Senior | Age: 22?Height / Weight: 6-2 / 240 lbsProjected Draft Status: 2nd or 3rd RoundNFL Comparison: Raekwon McMillanCollege StatisticsPlayer OverviewGermaine Pratt was a wide receiver and safety coming out of high school when he was ranked 4-stars by recruiting boards. Pratt decided to stay close to home and chose NC State over other offers from Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Virginia just to name a few. Pratt started his career at free safety and primarily contributed on special teams his first two years. Pratt was given a redshirt in 2016 due to recovery from shoulder surgery he was also converted to linebacker. That was a good decision. Pratt has been one of the best linebackers in the ACC and arguably in college football. He has produced nicely at the position and teams ought to be intrigued by his blend of size, physicality, and athleticism. As a converted safety he¡¯s one of the best in the class as far as speed. Pratt showed off his speed at the Senior Bowl but will need to show off his movement and other skills at the combine to make a run up the board. If he can show that he has more flexibility and fluidity than previously thought he could go early on day 2 of the draft. StrengthsGood size, athleticism, and great speed for the position. Solidly built physique and can play with some power and has some pop to his hits. Has sideline to sideline athleticism makes a lot of plays others can¡¯t because of his athleticism. Solid as a run defender and offers some pass rush ability as well.Has some versatility as he played inside and outside linebacker at NC State.Good tackler who can wrap up and stop opponents in their tracks.Looks pretty good in coverage moves well in space. WeaknessesOffers little resistance to offensive linemen blocking him. Can get washed out of plays pretty easily. Looked like he has close to zero moves to get off blocks. I¡¯m not so sure about his instincts and read and react ability. He looks to be a bit slow in diagnosing plays but makes up a lot of ground with his speed. Thats not going to work nearly as well in the NFL.Has a bit of stiffness in his lower half would be big if he could show that he cleaned in up in offseason work otherwise he¡¯ll probably be nicked for not ideal fluidity and change of direction ability. Would like him to have a bit more awareness as perhaps related to his instincts. In his hesitation or diagnosis its almost like he loses some urgency as he waits for the ball to come to him. This is especially evident when he¡¯s rushing the QB. He seems to run into blocks rather than avoid them.Let¡¯s see his work:More Germain Pratte videosHow He Would Fit On The Redskins?Pratt certainly is an intriguing option for the Redskins on day 2 of the draft. His athleticism is what the team has needed and the fandom has been craving for for a few years now. The Redskins ILB position is still in flux right now. Regardless of what Bruce Allen says there still is a chance Reuben Foster could be suspended for some period of time by the NFL not to mention the probability of Foster making a mistake again. Mason Foster should not be brought back for obvious reasons and the Redskins may not bring back Zach Brown as there seems to be some tension between him and the team. It would be a wise investment in the position to draft a player like Pratt on day 2 if they do not look to the position in the 1st rounds. Pratt has his issues but by and large he is fundamentally solid and is a well rounded player. He could start right away in this defense and has the skill set to remain on the field in all situations. Pratt probably would be the most athletic linebacker on the team and could definitely help the Redskins in the run game and in coverage. As he develops I expect him to be able to diagnose things a bit quicker (remember he is a converted safety). I think his potential is quite high and I would love to have him on the team.
