Despite the fact that 2020 has already proven to be an
unpredictable year with unprecedented commerce demands,
worldwide ecommerce sales have already increased by 18%
compared to the previous year. According to Shopify, this
amounts to $3.5 trillion USD. Furthermore, it is expected
to nearly double by 2023, reaching more than $6.5
trillion dollars.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, it's likely that
preparations were already underway to realign processes
to accommodate the anticipated growth in ecommerce
transactions. The state of the world during the pandemic,
on the other hand, significantly reduced the amount of
time available for updates and changes to be implemented.
Companies all over the world were scrambling to make
quick decisions based on their specific situations.

What role does automation play in this?
With this year's online shopping boom and higher-than-
ever customer expectations, it is critical for any
company selling products or services through the internet
to carefully consider whether automation can improve
their business operations. Retailers who had already made
investments in automation had an easier time adjusting to
the slew of unexpected challenges that arose this year.
In the face of unexpected shifts in demand and labor
availability, automated goods to person systems provided
the flexibility and scalability necessary to maintain
service levels. Because operators are able to work in
their own space and easily adhere to social distancing
protocol, these systems have also improved worker safety.

While you may not be able to make significant changes in
time for the upcoming season, it is never too early to
begin planning for the long term. Keeping track of and
analyzing the data and trends from this season will be
beneficial in determining the most appropriate solution.

Pallet Dispensers and Stackers are two types of pallet
dispensers.
Pallet Dispensers are machines that automate the
singulation and dispensing of empty pallets on a
production line. Our pallet dispensers are either fork-
style or lift-style depending on the type of pallet and
overall quality it is being used to distribute. They can
typically hold up to 20 pallets at a time, which allows
operators to focus on other value-added tasks while
pallets are automatically dispensed and conveyed to be
loaded with product, as shown in the illustration.

Pallet stackers are located in direct opposition to
pallet dispensers and perform the same functions as
dispensers, but in a completely different manner. Pallet
dispensers are frequently used in robotic depalletizing
systems, in which inbound pallet loads are completely
depleted of their contents before being sent to the next
stage of processing. Pallets are then stacked and placed
in a queue to be picked up by an operator.

Conveyor for Pallets
Pallet conveyors are used to automate the transport and
presentation of pallets within a robot-controlled
environment. The CDLR pallet
tid=668">conveyor, which is manufactured by Bastian
Solutions, is both a chain driven live roller and a drag
chain pallet conveyor. Both CDLR and drag chain conveyor
have specific applications in which they can be used.
CDLR is available in a variety of roller center
dimensions that vary depending on the pallet type, the
weight of the load, and the stability of the load being
transported. Drag Chain is available in a variety of
configurations, including 2 strand, 3 strand, and even 5
strand, depending on the load specifications. It is also
possible to utilize additional zones of pallet conveyor
to increase accumulation of pallet loads, resulting in a
reduction in the frequency with which a fork truck
operator will need to attend to the system in order to
pick or place a pallet load, as previously stated.

A shuttle car is another option for transporting full or
empty pallets throughout the system, and it can be used
for either purpose. Pallet transportation is accomplished
through the use of shuttle cars, which are equipped with
a floor-mounted linear track and a shuttle with a
conveyorized top. Shuttle cars are frequently preferred
over pallet conveyor trunk lines with multiple pop-up
transfers because they are more cost-effective.

If there is limited space near a robotic system, an
Autonomous Guided Vehicle, also known as an AGV, can be
used to transport pallets. AGVs, in contrast to pallet
conveyors or shuttle cars, do not necessitate the
purchase of any physical equipment that could interfere
with neighboring systems or aisle ways. An automated
guided vehicle (AGV) is capable of transporting both
empty pallets and complete loads to and from the robotic
system. Because AGVs can be programmed to transport
pallets to any location within a facility, they are also
not limited in terms of distance traveled by them.
