MIAMI -- Ray Allen continued his torrid pace and helped
the Miami Heat avoid another home loss.

18 points as the Heat defeated the Memphis Grizzles 91-86
on Friday night and avoided losing at home for the third
time in their last four games. Allen is averaging 18
points per game in Miamis past five games. "Its really
just team oriented," Allen said. "When we play well, we
move the ball around. Theres no telling whos going to be
the recipient. Whether its offensively or defensively,
somebodys got to make plays out there. "On any given
night, based on who we play, it could be anybody." Miami
rallied from an 84-77 deficit with 4:08 remaining and
scored 11 unanswered points. Allens 3-pointer with 3:27
remaining began the comeback and Dwyane Wades jumper with
1:32 left tied it at 84. Wades two free throws with 1:04
left gave the Heat their first lead since early in the
third quarter. "We had to make plays on both ends in the
fourth quarter and manage the game with intensity and the
right plays," Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said. After Mike
Miller missed a 3-point attempt with 51 seconds remaining
for the Grizzlies, LeBron James jumper with 24 seconds
left capped the Heats late run for an 88-84 advantage.
James finished with 15 points, and Wade and Mario
Chalmers scored 14 points each for the Heat. James also
had seven assists and six rebounds. "It was one of those
grind-out, playoff-type games," said James, who sat out
Miamis game at Boston on Wednesday because of back
spasms. "No matter what happens, you just have to try to
make plays to help you win. Myself, and D-Wade and the
rest of the guys made plays down the stretch." Zach
Randolph scored 25 points and had 14 rebounds for the
Grizzlies. Marc Gasol finished with 14 points, but left
because of a sprained ankle midway through the third
quarter and didnt return. "We turned the basketball over
way too much," Memphis coach David Joerger said of his
teams six fourth-quarter turnovers. "Theyve got good
players that made big plays." Chalmers scored eight
points during a 16-4 run that closed the third quarter
and helped Miami erase a 12-point gap. Chris Andersens
tip-in at the buzzer ended the surge and tied it at 68.
"We got kind of stagnant toward the end," Randolph said.
"Overall, we played good. We just couldnt make shots
toward the end." The Grizzlies opened the second half on
an 11-2 spurt behind two baskets each from Gasol and
Randolph. But Gasol injured his left ankle after
colliding with Chris Boshs left foot. Gasol left for the
dressing room with 6:20 remaining and didnt return. "He
got hurt and then the game kind of changed," Randolph
said. Mike Conleys three-point play with 5:13 left in the
third period gave the Grizzlies their first double-digit
lead at 62-52. "The Memphis Grizzlies are a very good
team thats playing well and we just had to find a way in
any way possible, and it all happened on the defensive
end of the floor for us," Wade said. Miami rallied from
two nine-point deficits early in the second quarter and
finished the period on a 14-7 spurt. James jumper with 37
seconds remaining gave the Heat a 45-43 lead at halftime.
Millers first basket against his former teammates was a
3-pointer that increased the Grizzlies lead to 29-29 with
9:46 remaining in the second quarter. Miller received a
huge ovation from fans and hugs from his former teammates
when he was presented with the Heats championship ring
before the game. He was not available after the game. "We
hate that hes not around here still," James said. "Its
great to see our fans and our franchise pay respect to a
guy who helped us win two championships." NOTES: James
didnt reach double-digits in scoring until his jumper
1:03 into the fourth quarter. ... Randolph had his 398th
career double-double. ... Tennis star Roger Federer, in
Miami for the Sony Open, attended the game and hit
several tennis balls into the stands during a timeout.

quarterback EJ Manuel was ruled out from playing against
the Miami Dolphins because of swelling in his left knee.
That means journeyman backup Thad Lewis, who is from
Miami, will make his fourth start of the season on Sunday
-- and second of the year against the Dolphins. The Bills
(5-9) have already been eliminated from playoff
contention. The Dolphins (8-6), meanwhile, control their
own playoff destiny. Miami, which has won three straight
and four of five, can clinch a berth by either winning
its final two games or having both Baltimore and
Cincinnati lose. Bills coach Doug Marrone made the
decision to sit Manuel early into practice on Wednesday
after the rookie first-round draft pick showed difficulty
with his mobility. Manuel practiced inside the teams
fieldhouse, and was then held out once Marrone shifted
the session outside on the slick turf at Ralph Wilson
Stadium. Marrone said Manuels lack of mobility and
instability in the knee would have made it difficult to
play. And he was also concerned how ready Manuel might be
with limited practice time. Manuel was hurt during a 27-
20 loss at Jacksonville on Sunday, though its not clear
on which play the injury occurred. Drafted 16th overall
out of Florida State, Manuel was the first and only
quarterback selected in the first round. He has gone 4-6
as a starter this season. And this will mark the third
time since training camp that hes been sidelined with a
knee injury. Manuel missed the final two weeks of the
preseason after having a procedure on his left knee,
which he hurt in a game against Minnesota. He then missed
four games after spraining his right knee in a 37-24 loss
at Cleveland on Oct. 3. Marrone first revealed the injury
on Monday, but was optimistic about Manuels chances of

changed over the past two days when Manuels knee did not
respond to treatment. Though Manuel wont play this
weekend, Marrone said he felt "very confident" that
Manuel will start in the Bills finale at New England on

string together consecutive wins for the first time since
Weeks 2 and 3 of 2012. Manuel is 3-2 at home and has
struggled with his consistency on the road. Lewis has
proven to be a capable backup since being promoted from
the practice squad on Oct. 7. He went 1-2 in place of
Manuel earlier this season before Lewis was sidelined by
a rib injury in a 35-17 loss at New Orleans. Lewis
victory came against the Dolphins on Oct. 20, when he
went 21 of 32 for 202 yards and an interception in the
23-21 win. The Bills acquired Lewis in a trade with
Detroit in August, after Manuel hurt his left knee. He
was cut by Buffalo before the start of the season and
then signed to the teams practice squad. Overall, the
Duke product has gone 62 of 103 for 652 yards with three
touchdowns and two interceptions. Receiver Stevie Johnson
is also not expected to play, Marrone said. Johnson has
been excused to be with his family in California
following the unexpected death of the players mother on
Saturday. "I dont believe that he will be available for
our game on Sunday," Marrone said. "And I think its
important we realize this tragedy, and our thoughts and
prayers are with Stevie and his family." Marrone also
considered starting safety Aaron Williams chances of
playing on Sunday as "50-50." Williams did not practice
after hurting his ribs while making a tackle in the
fourth quarter against Jacksonville.
