Finding every ruin in Elden Ring is one of those tasks
that looks simple on paper, but once you’re actually out
in the Lands Between, the world suddenly feels massive.
Ruins are basically mini-dungeons: quick, punchy spots
with loot, enemies, traps, and sometimes hidden doors
that make you feel very clever when you figure them out.
If you’re trying to uncover all of them, or at least the
ones that matter most for progression, this guide walks
you through what to expect, how to spot them faster, and
a few small tricks that make the hunt way smoother.

What Counts as a Ruin and Why They Matter

In Elden Ring, ruins usually appear as collapsed stone
structures on the surface, often with staircases leading
underground. Almost every ruin comes with a cellar, and
that cellar usually hides a chest, a miniboss, or a
special item. They’re fast, rewarding stops, and perfect
for players who like to explore casually without
committing to a full dungeon.

If you’re still getting your bearings, ruins are one of
the best ways to grab early upgrade materials or spare
runes. Some players even stockpile currency first if they
plan to buy elden ring
runes
, especially if they want to push early weapon
upgrades without losing progress to an unlucky boss
encounter. Just make sure you explore naturally so you
don’t miss important loot that can’t be purchased.

Limgrave Ruins: Your First Major Cluster

Limgrave is packed with ruins, and unlocking them is
basically your warm-up round. You’ll find Gatefront
Ruins, Dragon-Burnt Ruins, and Mistwood Ruins spread
across the starting territories. Each one teaches you
something: how to clear a mini-camp, how to avoid
explosive traps, how to spot staircases hidden among
collapsed walls.

Gatefront is a good early stop because it teaches you how
to approach enemy camps safely. Dragon-Burnt Ruins
introduces teleport traps, so don’t be shocked if you
suddenly get blasted across the map into a completely
different zone.

If you prefer a more relaxed early grind instead of
running risky routes with tons of runbacks, some players
like to buy elden ring
runes fast delivery
to get their build stable
enough to explore comfortably. It’s not required at all,
just something some folks do so they can focus on
exploring every ruin without worrying about losing
currency to random wolves.

Weeping Peninsula Ruins: Smaller but Dense

Just south of Limgrave, the Weeping Peninsula hides
several ruins with surprisingly solid rewards. Look for
the Tombsward Ruins and the Impaler’s Catacombs entrance
near its cliffs. This area feels a bit quieter, so it’s
great for players who want to explore without constant
ambushes.

One small tip: ruins in this region are slightly harder
to spot because the grass is taller. If you see broken
arches or walls jutting out of the ground, there’s
probably a cellar hidden nearby. I found myself circling
the same ruin twice before finally noticing the staircase
entrance tucked behind a fallen pillar.

Liurnia of the Lakes: Ruins Hidden in the Water

Liurnia’s massive lake area is full of half-sunken
ruins. The tricky part is visibility. Between the foggy
weather and the water reflections, ruins here blend into
the scenery more than usual.

Checking these landmarks is worth it because Liurnia
ruins often contain sorcery-related loot. If you’re
playing a magic build, you’ll want to hit Stillwater
Cave, Laskyar Ruins, and the Fallen Ruins of the Lake
early. Even the random chests here tend to drop items
that support mage builds.

And just a small note: this zone is one of the reasons
some players use third-party mapping tools or services
like U4GM to speed up prep work. The region’s structure
is wide and messy enough that it’s easy to get lost.
It’s not a must, of course, but if you like planning
routes, having extra info helps.

Caelid Ruins: High Risk, High Reward

Caelid is where the game officially stops being nice to
you. Farum Greatbridge and the surrounding region contain
several ruins, but nearly every single one is guarded by
something that wants to delete you instantly. The
Abandoned Cave and Swamp Lookout Tower areas hide
multiple ruin entrances that blend into the reddish
landscape, so check every archway and broken wall.

Caelid ruins often reward you with materials, statuses,
and special weapons that lean toward poison, scarlet rot,
and bleed strategies. These loot drops can drastically
impact your mid-game builds if you’re willing to brave
the danger.

Altus Plateau and Capital Outskirts: Ruins with Stronger
Enemies

Once you reach Altus, ruins start feeling more like
strategic ambush zones. The Windmill Village ruins and
Lux Ruins are prime examples: lots of enemies, lots of
chances to get cornered, but also solid loot. Hidden
bosses appear more frequently in this region, so enter
these cellars prepared.

You’ll also notice a pattern: higher-tier ruins begin
placing enemies directly next to the cellar staircases.
Try circling the ruin from the outside first before
walking into the center. It saves you from several gotcha
moments.

Mountaintops of the Giants and Endgame Ruins

While the number of ruins drops off toward the endgame,
the ones that remain are way more important. Giants’
Mountaintop Catacombs, First Church surroundings, and the
ruins near Castle Sol hide some of the final upgrade
items—and occasionally, late-game spells—for your
build.

Endgame ruins tend to feel straightforward, but enemies
here punish hesitation much harder. If you’ve been
breezing through earlier zones, don’t get too confident.
I’ve lost count of how many times I charged into a ruin
thinking it’d be a quick clear, only to get flattened by
a hidden axe knight waiting inside the cellar.

for Unlocking Every Ruin

If you really want to make sure you’ve uncovered every
ruin on the map, here are a few simple habits that help:

• Always look for broken stone arches. They almost always
point toward a ruin.

• Check both sides of any collapsed wall. Staircases hide
behind them a lot.

• Revisit earlier areas after leveling up. Some ruins
feel risky early but become instant clears later.

• Ruins are often grouped. If you find one, walk a bit
farther in every direction—you’ll usually find another.

Exploring ruins is honestly one of the most satisfying
parts of Elden Ring. Each one is quick, distinct, and
full of tiny surprises. Whether you’re hunting for loot,
clearing every zone, or chasing that completionist
feeling, ruins give you a steady stream of rewards
without long dungeon commitments.
